Testimonials for Until Death…And Then What
“Bettye H. Author’s voice is clear, crisp and introspective. I have been following Deanna Hurtubise’s work since she started writing. She has always been an excellent communicator but I feel this book is her best effort to date. I am looking forward to her future works since I can tell she has lots more to contribute.”
“Marion C. How wonderful that you are able to use the talents the Lord has given you and then reach out and share that gift with the world….You bared your soul in this one but brought hope to so many who mourn.”
“Sr. Carol T. Of all the books I have read on loss and grief, this is by far the best one.. You hit on everything just right.”
“Jan D. You don’t have to be dealing with the death of a loved one to reap the benefits of this superbly written book by Deanna Hurtubise. There is much to be learned and pondered regarding guilt, our legacies, memory vs. nostalgia, alone vs. lonely. It is a compelling read from the content page to the conclusion. Definitely worth 10 stars!”
“Moses and Paula. Deanna is my sister-in-law who was married to my husband’s brother Paul for over 50 years. She has a marvelous way of articulating what many widows must feel but can’t find words for. This is the second book Deanna has written since Paul died. The first is In Sickness and in Health, stories and reflections on the years she was Paul’s primary caregiver through Parkinson’s. Both books are a tribute to a meaningful and happy marriage but also a realistic understanding of the stages of life, including death. My favorite chapter is titled Memory vs. Nostalgia. Deanna sees the difference like this: Memory keeps the past a part of us, to learn from both the good and the bad. Nostalgia keeps us a prisoner of the past and prevents truly living the present. As she ponders “And Then What?” after the death of a spouse, she comes to believe that “God expects us to find a purpose in every phase of our lives.” Deanna relates her own path to finding a purpose as a widow, how to nourish herself in body, mind, and soul, and “do something good for someone else.”
“Mary C. Just wanted to tell you how much I loved your new book! You truly covered everything I could think of regarding being, as my friend calls it, a “poor little widda woman!”
